Singer Cardi B, a famous African American celebrity, has recently been under attack by the alt-right following the publishing of WAP, her latest hit.

Sexists and racists have teamed up in an effort to undermine the accomplishments of women of color, by trying to tarnish the song and claim its sexually vulgar theme is bad. So let’s debunk their claims.

As of now, WAP boasts 334 million views coupled with about 7 million likes and 1 million dislikes. With over 576,000 comments at the moment, wide parts of the comment section are dedicated to the mocking and ridiculing of a genuine diverse masterpiece. So like it or not alt right, it’s been a wild success. This song won’t make it — Fact checked, false.

Exhibiting ignorance

Many comments follow suit and try to mimic the rhetoric users like Key Epic, causing in turn the spiral of dangerous ideas.

The idea stemming from this incident manifests a problem deeply rooted into society, the idea that sexuality is bad. For many centuries, Christianity has presented sexuality as a bad thing, something to fear. But in practice it’s been used as a weapon to silence women and minorities.

“Beat it up, n-word, catch a charge
Extra large and extra hard”

This verse could be interpreted for the simple-minded as mere sexuality, but it contains much more. Through very sophisticated measures, Cardi empowers black people. Describing a black male’s genitalia as extra large and extra hard contributes to the image of black people in society, and here’s why.

In an openly sexual society one’s sexuality defines value. And as such, having a big penis elevates your value in this context. Christianity and other forms of primitive ways sought to silence sexuality out of fear of the value of black men. The white male could not compete with the undeniable penis size statistic black men boast, so he sought to cut out the context in which the black man is clearly superior to him-Sexuality.

Throughout this entire song, Cardi B reminds us of why sexuality is good, and that black men are successful. The use of the n-word to describe the sexual partner verifies that it is in fact a black male possessing the ability to pleasure a woman. The alt right want you to think sexuality doesn’t matter, a lie perpetuated by both racist and sexist circles to diminish the value of black people and women.

“Your honor, I’m a freak bitch, handcuffs, leashes
Switch my wig, make him feel like he cheating”

Not only does this song is empowering to black men, it is clearly positive for women as well. The poet writes about her power, her ability to act like a “freak”, but in a good way. The power and strength a woman has to offer is emphasized throughout the entirety of WAP. It is the reminder that not only can a woman be positively sexual, but she can also be powerful and stronger than men.

So to summarize, this song is crucially important for the youth and younger people as it empowers both women of colors and men of color, particularly black men. The disguise of vile hatred as mere criticism and memes is meant to undermine the value of what both women and black men can bring to the table. So next time your neighbor plays WAP near your kids, don’t walk them away, let them enjoy and listen to this masterpiece.
